Finance Minister Wee Ka Siong will debate with DAP Secretary -General Lim Guan Eng on the issue of the country's cabotage policy.
The debate will be broadcast live on television as well as several online platforms at 9.30pm tomorrow.
The matter was confirmed by Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching who was previously tasked by Lim to organize the debate.
"It is expected to last for an hour. It is only about the issue of cabotage policy, ”he told Malaysiakini.
Wee and Lim's office also confirmed the event when contacted by Malaysiakini.
It is understood that both will be present at the TV3 studio at Seri Pentas tomorrow night.
The debate will also be broadcast live on Astro Awani and 8TV channels - on television as well as on YouTube and Facebook.
On September 30, Wee and Lim debated in the Dewan Rakyat on the cabotage policy for foreign ships involved in the repair of submarine internet cables.
The issue started when Lim was unhappy with Wee's answer in the Dewan Rakyat on the country's cabotage policy, leading to Wee challenging Lim to debate on it on Sept 30.
The challenge was made after Lim asked Wee whether the cabotage policy had caused some technology giants to stay away from Malaysia in submarine cable installation projects to improve internet connectivity.
Lim took up the challenge.
The tech giants have written letters to the government several times to reinstate the cabotage exemption made during the PH administration to expedite the internet cable repair process.
Wee, however, said the cabotage policy would help the local shipping industry to grow, while the presence of tech giants would raise monopoly concerns.
