PETALING JAYA: The Islamic Economic Development Foundation (Yapeim) has suspended its director-general, Datuk Abibullah Samsudin, amid investigations into alleged misconduct.

Yapeim chairman Mohd Daud Bakar said that an investigation would be conducted over a video of Abibullah allegedly "warning" Yapeim staff against voting for Pakatan Harapan before the 2018 General Election.

"During his suspension, the investigation committee will ask him to attend (the hearing) to give a statement and assist the investigation," said Mohd Daud.

The video, which was reportedly discovered during an external audit in 2018, showed a man, believed to be Abibullah, saying that those who vote for Pakatan are "not qualified to work for Yapeim".

"Yes, it is secret but … I will go to the Election Commission (EC) and I will check one by one where you voted and who you voted for.

"If you vote for Pakatan Harapan, you are not qualified to work in Yapeim. Go find work with DAP," said the man in the video.

It was reported in May 2018 that PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil had lodged a police report over the video.

"I request the police to investigate and confirm whether the individual in the video was Abibullah," said Fahmi.

He urged the police to investigate the matter immediately, as it "involves the status, image and dignity of a civil servant and government agency".

Mohd Daud said that Yapeim director Parihah Hasan would be appointed as acting director-general during Abibullah's suspension.
