Villager: Datuk threatened to demolish village on ‘PM’s orders’

PSM’s S Arutchelvan says the matter must be investigated as he does not want people to misuse the PM’s name.PUTRAJAYA: Some 20 people from Kampung Bukit Kuda, Klang, today handed over a memorandum to the prime minister urging him to put an end to abuse of power after a Datuk threatened to have their village demolished.
Manis Baba, a representative from the village, said she was approached by the individual on Hari Raya Aidiladha and told he was going to demolish the village, allegedly after being instructed by Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“If we refused to evacuate, he said he would burn our houses down,” she told reporters here, adding that four policemen had accompanied the Datuk.
Manis said when she asked for the documents from the authorities, the Datuk pointed to a police officer named “Nasir”.
She also claimed that the cop showed them his gun to scare them.
Manis said that this was not the first time villagers of Kampung Bukit Kuda had faced similar threats in an attempt to force them to evacuate.
She said in 2015, an individual, known only as “Faizal”, claimed he owned the land and created a lot of problems to chase the villagers out.
But two years ago, the court granted the villagers the right to the land as they had been residing there for over five decades.
Meanwhile, PSM’s S Arutchelvan, who accompanied the villagers, wants the matter to be investigated.
“In the era of a new Malaysia, we do not want people to misuse the PM’s name and the people involved must be probed for abuse of power.”
Meanwhile, a political secretary to the prime minister, Abu Bakar Yahya, who received the memorandum, promised the villagers that a probe will be carried out.
“It will be easy to identify this ‘Datuk’. We hope Bukit Aman will investigate.”
