A 16-year-old slashed a mini-market owner during an attempted robbery but was nabbed by passers-by when he tried to flee the scene

GEORGE TOWN: A 16-year-old who slashed a mini-market owner during an attempted robbery was nabbed by passers-by when he tried to flee the scene in Jalan Tapah here.

The 50-year-old man shouted for help when the robber slashed him in the 3.35pm incident yesterday.

His son, 30, who was behind the shop, quickly ran out and saw his father struggling with the youth.

He quickly sought the help of passers-by, and they overpowered the suspect and handed him over to the police.


OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the victim was slashed on his left hand, left forearm and back of the head, adding that he was admitted to the Penang Hospital where his condition was described as stable.

“We will remand the suspect pending investigations into the incident, which has been classified as voluntarily causing hurt during a robbery under Section 394 of the Penal Code.”
