Fans stand behind their hero

PETALING JAYA: We are behind you all the way. That is the message that Malaysians are saying to Datuk Lee Chong Wei who has been suspended after being tested positive for dexamethasone.
Most felt that even if it was a case of using a banned substance, he should not be deemed guilty if there was no intention to cheat.
Sales manager Patricia Lim, 42, said Chong Wei should be absolved of the offence if dexamethasone was used to treat his injuries.
Accountant K. Ramesh, 31, said: “He has had a clean record throughout his illustrious career until now, and I hope that this is taken into account.”
Student Zainuddin Ibrahim, 23, said he was still a firm supporter of Chong Wei despite the allegations, adding that “I am not convinced by the positive doping test”.
“Come what may, he’s still our hero and deserves our support,” said 25-year-old human resources executive R. Sonia.
In PENANG, bowling coach Larry Chelvan, 38, said it was not Chong Wei but his doctors who should be questioned.
“He has no access to medication as it is handled by doctors. I hope that he will be able to continue playing,” he added.
Car workshop manager Pheh Wei Lun, 28, said: “There is no way he would have deliberately used a banned substance.”
Support for Chong Wei has also been overwhelming online.
Facebook user Abdul Muhaimin wrote: “We are with u Chong Wei. His intention to serve the country is what resulted in him having the drug for his rehabilitation. He is merely a victim of circumstance.”
“Chong Wei, Malaysia is very proud of you!!” posted Kwok-Kuan Chan.
Tony Scott wrote: “It is NOT an anabolic steroid that some athletes frequently abuse to improve performance, strength and stamina. He is innocent! We support you Datuk!”
