Suspected security guard robber of jewellery store nabbed in LCCT; partial loot recovered

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a suspect believed to be the security guard who robbed a jewellery store in Setapak at a fast food outlet in LCCT at around 7am Sunday.

City CID director Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the suspect, who is believed to be a Filipino, was detained while waiting to board a flight to Sabah.
Police also arrested another Filipino accompanying the suspect. Ku said checks on him revealed that he was also Filipino, and held a fake MyKad as well.
"After an interrogation, the suspect confessed to committing the robbery at the jewellery store in KL Festival City Mall.
“He later led us to a house in Pandan Jaya where officers recovered a Smith & Wesson .38 revolver, which is believed to have been used in the robbery.
“We also found five bullets, several price tags, and some of the jewellery that was stolen,” he said.
The suspect, who was posing as a Sabahan with a fake MyKad, threatened employees with a pistol while they were opening the jewellery shop at around 9.30am on Thursday.
He later escaped with a tray of 100 necklaces of a yet undetermined value.
He had reportedly only been working for the jewellery store for two months.
