THE Second Penang Bridge was fully lit up for the first time on Wednesday night.
Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) Penang general manager Mohd Zahir Md Nagor, who officiated at the event, said it was significant because it proved they were ready to provide power supply for the bridge.
“We expect the bridge to use two megawatts of electricity daily once it is opened," he said.
Mohd Zahir said TNB expected a greater demand for power supply in the Batu Kawan area when the bridge opened as more manufacturing plants would move their operations there.
"More housing projects are also expected on the mainland," he said. Present were Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd acting constructing director Hussin Mohamad and chief operations officer Mej Mohd Ashari Alias.
The bridge is expected to be completed in a week.
Motorists will enjoy toll-free rides for a month after the opening
