Flash mobs started in clubs when we used to do the MACARENA! In those days it was cool to do the running man, which in modern times is called Shuffling! Macarena i could do, running man is something i could not do then & still cant do now!
With Oscar winning song Jai Ho, Gangnam Style and Party Rock Anthem came the era of the flash mobs and the parody versions of it as global phenomenon!, Kuala Lumpur has not been spared from this phenomena. Everyone got into the act even radio stations like hitz.fm came up with a parody version of Psy's Gangnam Style naming it Oppa KL Style !
In a way it helped people all over the world understand and have a first hand taste of each others cultures. The Indians were dancing to Oppa Gangname Style, while the Koreans were dancing to Jai Ho and the Japanese were singing Why My Kolaveri!
Every shopping, theme park, or major public place or centre had to have a flash mob event held on their premises. It was the in thing to do. Flash mobs even performed at KL Sentral and KLIA airport arrival hall. One would think with all the fuss on security in airports they will not be allowed to do something like that! Malaysia Airlines crew did the one event at KLIA that went viral on the web.
Initially it was done just for pure fun and camaraderie over people who enjoy the same song or singer, soon flash mob was organised as part of a marriage proposal. Some were really nice proposals and if tears doesn't fill your eyes, you can confirm you lost the romantic nerve in you. Using flash mobs as part of a marriage proposal became an in-thing and was first started in the US on a TV show called MOBBED. Where a flash mob was organised as part of a surprise marriage proposal and the wedding was to be held at the same time if the bride accepted. It was such an elaborate event, the video went viral world wide.
It seems the favourite choices of flash mob organizers are Sunway Lagoon, KLCC, Pavillion Entrance, Putrajaya, KL Sentral and most other major shopping centres. Here are some of my favourite marriage proposals made in public with a flash mob in Indonesia, Philippines and Australia.
I found this nice heart warming videos of some marriage proposals in KL that took place in public places. Enjoy the KL style!
