Police Inspector and Woman Mastermind behind the RM620,000 robbery

THE STAR

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have launched a manhunt for a robber who aided one of their own inspectors in a RM620,000 heist in Bangsar.
Saying that the case has tarnished their image, the police promised “no special treatment or cover up” in investigating the robbery, which saw a police cruiser and uniforms being used to rob two money changer employees.
One newspaper reported that two men, allegedly attired in police uniforms and in an official cruiser, stopped the money changer employees while they were transporting a bag of cash in Jalan Maarof on Wednesday.
They questioned a female employee and “confiscated” the bag of money. They ordered the employee to drive to Bukit Aman, as she had to explain why they were carrying such a large sum of money.
But when the victims insisted that the policemen came along with them, they were threatened with handcuffs instead.
The cruiser used in the robbery was last seen parked by a police inspector in the restricted zone of the Klang court complex.
The inspector claimed that the Proton Waja had broken down and he had to leave it there.
But it all turned out to be one big ruse.
KL police chief Comm Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa said they arrested the inspector and also the female money changer employee after investigators found holes in their stories.
It is believed that the female employee had planned the heist with the suspect, who later roped in the rogue inspector whom he was friends with.
“We are looking for at least one more person. We believe the man may have posed as a police officer with the inspector during the robbery,” he said.
He said that the police vehicle was recovered after the rogue inspector brought it back to the court complex, where he was arrested by his own colleagues on Wednesday. The bag of cash has still not been found.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Abdul Samah Mat said his state department, where the rogue officer and vehicle was from, has opened up to a parallel internal investigation from Bukit Aman’s Integrity and Standard Compliance Department.
“When any police officer is involved in things like this, it really tarnishes our image. But I want to stress that it is an isolated case.
“I assure there will be no special treatment just because he is one of us. There will be no cover up whatsoever,” he said.
