KOTA KINABALU: The notorious Mat Malaya was arrested after police stormed a homestay in Kundasang, at the foothills of Mount Kinabalu, late Monday night.
The 44-year-old, who is a brother of former Federal minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar, was arrested along with his 24-year-old Sabahan wife and his two-month-old baby girl.
Sabah CID chief Datuk Sallehhudin Abdul Rahman said that the suspect who is wanted for the May 6 shooting of a mechanic in Kota Kinabalu did not resist arrest.
Mat Malaya, real name Mohd Jusnaidi Oma is being investigated for attempted murder and possession of a firearm.
Police, however, did not recover any weapons on him.
The suspect is alleged to have shot a mechanic at a car air conditioner workshop after a fight that was triggered by him staring at the mechanic.
It was reported that Mat Malaya, who was staring at the mechanic, got angry and started shooting when he was questioned by the victim.
Mat Malaya was previously charged with a drug trafficking offence in 2007 but was freed by the High Court.
