KUALA LUMPUR: Outspoken MP Datuk Bung Moktar Radin (pic) blew his top over a protest staged against him at his house for an alleged sexist remark, even threatening that if he was home “some may not be alive.”
Bung Mohtar (BN – Kinabatangan) was referring to Wanita PKR members who first protested outside the Parliament on Wednesday and later went to gather in front of his house.
An irate Bung wanted to cite Zuraida Kamaruddin (PKR – Ampang) to the Parliament’s Rights and Privileges Committee for what he described as “biadab” (being rude).
“A group of women trespassed my house and shouted “Reformasi” (Reformation).
“Although a police report has been lodged, it is still rude. If I was there, some may not be alive,” he said when raising Standing Order 36 (12) in the Dewan Rakyat.
As he was speaking, several male MPs including Tian Chua (PKR – Batu) and Hee Loy Sian (PKR – Petaling Jaya Selatan) stood up to interject to which Bung lost his cool.
“You shut up! Don’t challenge me. If you are man enough, go out and we will see who is left standing,” Bung shouted.
Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia then stepped in and ordered both sides to calm down.
“If the situation is hot, don’t pour oil on it. Is this the character of a YB (Yang Berhormat)?
“For me, the issue between Kinabatangan and Ampang is settled. You can make fiery speeches but do not breach the Standing Orders,” he said.
The debate resumed when cooler heads prevailed.
A group of Wanita PKR members called for Bung to apologise for his sexist remarks.
On June 9, amid Zuraida’s fiery debate in the Dewan, Bung had said Zuraida’s husband would be frightened at home if the situation was similar.
Bung is alleged to have said: “Saya bimbang. Saya tengok laki dia di rumah takut macam ini keadaan (I am worried. When her husband sees her like this at home in this kind of situation)”.
Zuraida wanted to refer Bung to the Rights and Privileges Committee over the alleged sexist remark two days ago.
However, Bung was let off by Deputy Speaker Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee because the Standing Order was not raised on the day itself.
