Witness hears screams, suspect flees with machete, jewelry

The location of the robbery of a gold shop at a supermarket near Falim on Friday.


IPOH: "I heard people screaming, shortly after that I saw two men coming out of the shop carrying long machetes."

Two men armed with machetes robbed a gold shop at Falim supermarket, taking jewellery worth almost RM400,000.

Suhaila, a witness to the incident, saw the suspect exit the gold shop and people running for their lives.

Police are still investigating the incident, which occurred around 1pm without any injuries.

This was said by Suhaila, 26, who witnessed the robbery of a gold shop at a supermarket near Falim here on Friday.

Suhaila, who works at the shoe sales premises in the supermarket, said that before the incident, she saw a car believed to belong to the suspect parked right in front of the supermarket entrance.

However, according to her, the situation did not raise suspicion because he thought it was a vehicle that was to be used in the exhibition space.

"When I heard people screaming, I was shocked. I saw people starting to run around as if trying to save themselves.

"I myself went into the store and hid," he said when met by reporters.

According to Suhaila, she saw two suspects, one of whom was large and wearing a full face mask, leaving the gold shop.

She said one of them was also seen holding a sharp weapon such as a long machete.

"This is the first time I've faced such an anxious situation in the three years I've been working here," he said.

The incident, which occurred around 1 pm, did not involve any injuries.

Initial information stated that the suspect took jewelry estimated to be worth almost RM400,000 before fleeing in a vehicle.

As of 3.30pm, police investigations at the scene are still ongoing.
