KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur (KL) City continued to create history on the AFC Cup stage this season when they successfully confirmed their place in the Inter-Zone final.
Even sweeter, the success was created on the opponent's court after Bojan Hodak's men beat the Indian club, ATK Mohun Bagan 3-1 in the Inter-Zone semi-final at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium, Kolkata, a while ago.
Mohun Bagan led by Florentin Pogba who is the brother of French star Paul Pogba was seen to dominate the game, but failed to score.
On the other hand, Paulo Josue created a surprise for KL City when he scored the opening goal after his shot from outside the penalty box beat the goalkeeper, Vishal Kaith.
The goal in the 60th minute was the fifth goal contributed by Josue, who is also the captain of KL City throughout the tournament and continues to position himself as City Boys' top scorer in the AFC Cup stage this season.
Mohun Bagan revived their chances when they managed to equalize in the 90th minute through the finisher Fardin Ali Molla who shot in the penalty box.
The position, however, only lasted for about two minutes when Fakrul Aiman Sidid stamped his name as the scorer to put City Boys back in front.
The drama at the end of the match continued when Romel Morales then added the third goal in the 95th minute (including stoppage time), thus destroying Mohun Bagan's dream to rise and lead KL City to the Inter-Zon final.
KL City will face PFC Sogdiana in the Inter-Zone final which is expected to take place next month after the Uzbek club beat Hong Kong's Eastern Long Lions in another semi-final.
