KUALA LUMPUR: A police patrol team was forced to fire warning shots when they were attacked by dozens of men from China on Saturday night at Jalan Abraham off Jalan Khoo Teik Ee here.
The patrol team had stumbled upon the men gambling at the car porch of a house at 10.30pm.
No one was injured in the incident.
“While conducting an inspection at the house on Jalan Abraham, 20 to 30 men attacked the patrol officers.
“The situation got out of control and the police officers fired four (warning) shots in self-defence,” said Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaharuddin Abdullah.
He said the police team arrested 50 men from China at the scene and brought them to the Dang Wangi police headquarters for further action.
Shaharuddin said initial checks showed that several houses in the area had been turned into quarters for around 200 Chinese workers.
The case is being investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code for using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty, and Section 6 of the Common Gambling Houses Act 1953. © New Straits Times Press
