KOTA BARU: Three members of the Harry Gunung gang were arrested following a midnight shootout with police during a raid at a restaurant in Melor on Sunday.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Hasanuddin Hassan said one of the suspects had fired three shots at the police.
The three men - including the Johor-born gang leader known as Harry Gunung - had been on the wanted list for at least 20 cases of armed robbery, car theft, extortion and break-ins in Kelantan and Terengganu.
Apart from the gang leader, the two other suspects nabbed were known as Adik Ba and Mat Yi.
Police had raided the restaurant after a man opened fire from a car parked outside the restaurant, prompting police to shoot the tyres of the car and arrest the man.
A revolver, three bullets, three shotgun shells, three swords, three machetes, a curved knife, an electric stun device and break-in tools were seized in the raid, which also saw the police seizing gold chains, rings, lockets, earring, and a car.
The suspects have been remanded for seven days.
The case is being investigated under Section 3 of Firearms (Increased Penalty) Act 1971, Section 8(a) of Weapons Act 1969 and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
