Shootout after football game in Ipoh, between gang 08 and gang 21, remand for 7 extended


Remand for seven in Ipoh shooting incident extended

 
IPOH: The remand orders for seven out of nine suspects in connection with a shooting incident here involving members from two rival gangs have been extended.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said the police would remand three suspects for five more days until July 12. They were first remanded from July 3 to July 7.
He said another four suspects would be remanded for an additional six days until July 15 after the initial six-day period ended on July 9.
"The final two suspects detained in a third arrest are still being remanded for seven days, which will expire on July 11," he said in a media statement on Sunday.
ACP Sum said that the suspects are aged between 21 and 34 and some of them have previous criminal records.
He said out of the three people who were injured in the incident, two have been discharged from the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital and are in stable condition.
He added that an identity parade would be organised on Monday but did not give specifics on the people who would be in the lineup.
Last Tuesday, Perak police chief Comm Datuk Hasnan Hassan said three Gang 08 members, aged between 21 and 29 years, were shot in the arm and abdomen at about 8pm last Sunday in a shootout with rivals from Gang 21.
"The incident occurred after an earlier argument between rival groups while they were watching a football game at the Ipoh Padang at 4pm," he said.
Hasnan said the case is being investigated for attempted murder and discharging of firearms in a restricted area.
