TUARAN: Two men, in their haste to escape the police, rammed their car into a policeman before crashing into a tree at Kampung Karambunai Baru here on Tuesday.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek said the duo were stopped at Jalan Sulaman by police during the 9.30pm incident.

“When police approached the vehicle, the suspects sped off, prompting police to give chase.

“At Kampung Karambunai Baru, one of the policemen signaled the suspects to stop but was instead hit by their car."

Another policeman shot at the car tyre but the suspects still accelerated and skidded by the road side.

Both suspects were detained about a kilometre from Jalan Sulaman.

The injured lance corporal is in stable condition.

Prior to the incident, police had arrested another two suspects from Kampung Karambunai Baru at 4pm.

“The four Diwan Gang members were believed to have been involved in nine recent burglary and robbery cases in the district.

“Police seized a television set, a washing machine, guitar, loudspeakers and a car to assist investigations,” he said, adding all suspects would be remanded until Sunday.
