PETALING JAYA: A video of an 11-year-old Malay girl’s performance at a reality singing competition in China has captured the hearts of Malaysians online.
The girl, known as Adinda, from Taiping, Perak took part in the fourth season of kids reality television program “Let’s Sing Kids” which aired on July 2.
“Before this, I was afraid of singing in front of a big crowd, but here, now, I will be brave,” said Adinda moments before taking the stage to perform the song “Next Stop in the Future” in Mandarin by singer Lin Yu-chun.
Adinda’s performance also received a standing ovation from the crowd and impressed all three of the show’s judges.
Her initial performance was followed by the song “Let It Go” from Disney’s animated feature “Frozen”, which she sang as a duet together with singer Gary Chaw, who is a judge on the show.
She told the audience that it was her wish to sing with Chaw.
In her introductory video, which was played ahead of her performance, Adinda took viewers on a tour of her home where she introduced them, in Mandarin, to her family.
She also showed off an impressive collection of trophies, which she had won as a result of singing in various competitions.
Adinda said that her father had hoped for her to sing in China so that more people could hear her.
The video of her performance has since gone viral online.
Malaysians on social media reacted excitedly to the video of Adinda’s performance with many of them expressing their support and admiration the talented youngster.
“Great! Makes me proud of Malaysia and proud to be Malaysian,” said Danny Khoo.
Yati Ismail was also touched by Adinda’s singing, saying that she was brought to tears by the performance which also reminded her of what the “Malaysian spirit” is all about.
“I am very touched not just by her melodious voice but also by her choice of language. This is the spirit of unity that should be cultivated in every individual,” said Shum Chiew Weng.
Many on Facebook also took to calling her “little Shila” after Malaysian singing sensation Shila Amzah, who is a popular figure in the Chinese music industry.
“Let’s Sing Kids” is produced by the Hunan Broadcasting System, a leading television station in China.
