PETALING JAYA: Malaysian investor Datuk Dr Noordin Ahmad has agreed to buy a 50% stake in Italian football club Bari, according to club’s website www.fcbari1908club.com.
In the statement, the Serie B club president Gianluca Paparesta, who holds a 95% stake, had agreed on April 8 to sell 50% of his stake to Noordin, making the Malaysian the biggest shareholder of the club.
The club said that a press conference would be held in the coming days to announce details of the sale.
Noordin is also expected to be present at the press conference.
Paparesta, a former Seria A referee, formed a consortium to acquire the club for just €2mil (RM8.8mil) in May 2014 through auction after the club were declared bankrupt in March.
During the Serie B match against Cesena on April 4, a Jalur Gemilang was spotted at one of the stands in Bari’s San Nicola Stadium, giving rise to the buy-out speculation.
