Scores of people mobbed Dr Mahathir Mohamad at the National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur where he had gone to perform his Friday prayers this afternoon.
The reception comes amid the former premier’s claim that he is alone in the quest to seek answers from Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

In a video uploaded by former journalist Firdaus Abdullah onFacebook, Mahathir, clad in a blue shirt and sporting a songkok, greeted the people with a smile.

Apart from shaking hands, the 90-year-old former premier also obliged to dozens of selfie requests.

In recent weeks, Mahathir has lambasted Najib and claimed that BN would be defeated if he continued to lead the ruling coalition.

Najib, who rarely replies his critics, gave an hour-long interview to TV3 to respond to some of the issues raised by Mahathir.

However, the prime minister sidestepped most of the contentious posers  – namely the motive behind Altantuya Shariibuu’s murder.

Instead, Najib alluded his refusal to revive the “crooked bridge” project as one of the reasons for Mahathir’s ongoing attacks.

Last Friday, Mahathir’s backers met him for a dialogue. Several video clips depicting his retorts against Najib have been trickling out on Youtube.

While many in Umno have expressed support for Najib, several groups such as Perkasa and personalities like pop diva Siti Nurhaliza have come out in support of Mahathir.
