case verdict
June 25, 2025

The prosecution will appeal in the Federal Court following the Court of Appeal's decision today to acquit and acquit Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman of a wrongful conviction and a seven-year jail sentence, two lashes and a RM10 million fine imposed on him previously.
This was informed by MACC Chief Commissioner Azam Baki when asked to comment on the matter.
"I have been informed by the public prosecutor that they will appeal to the Federal Court," he said at a press conference at the MACC Headquarters in Putrajaya today.
Earlier, the Court of Appeal today unanimously acquitted Syed Saddiq of all convictions and sentences involving four charges related to criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property and money laundering involving Pemuda Bersatu (Armada) funds.
The decision was made unanimously by a three-judge panel chaired by Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim, along with Azman Abdullah and Noorin Badaruddin.
Previously, the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Nov 9, 2023 convicted the former youth and sports minister and sentenced him to seven years' imprisonment, two lashes, and a RM10 million fine.
Meanwhile, Azam, when asked if he was disappointed with the Court of Appeal's decision today, stressed that he had no personal sentiments with anyone in carrying out his duties.
"I have no personal (issues) with anyone, I have no frustration or dislike in investigating any case," he said.
