REFERENCES: The death toll from the 7.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on Friday rose to 2,886, with 4,639 injured and 373 still missing, according to the National Administrative Council's information team on Wednesday, Xinhua reported.
Myo Nyunt, president of the Myanmar Red Cross Association, told Xinhua that the main challenges in the rescue operation at this time include disaster assessment and logistical coordination.
He said rescue teams faced great difficulties in distributing relief supplies due to safety concerns in the affected areas, as well as a shortage of much-needed heavy machinery.
