SINGAPORE, May 4 -- Singapore on Sunday confirmed 657 new cases of COVID-19, with another death involving the elderly, bringing the number of fatalities to 18.
In a statement issued late Sunday, the republic’s Ministry of Health (MOH) said the Singaporean woman aged 86, died on May 3 at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
Labelled as Case 14,744, on April 27 the woman was confirmed to have contracted COVID-19 and had a history of diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia.
Singapore reported its first two COVID-19 deaths on March 21.
Meanwhile, the ministry updated that the cause of death for Case 17410, a 47 year-old male Bangladeshi national, who died on May 1, was due to ischaemic heart disease.
As of Sunday, 61 more cases of COVID-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.
In all, the MOH said,1,408 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.
There are currently 1,630 confirmed cases still hospitalised with most in stable condition or improving, while 22 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Meanwhile, 15,149 cases with mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for COVID-19 remain isolated at community facilities.
Of 657 new cases recorded on Sunday, there were no imported cases, 13 cases in the community facilities, 18 work permit holders residing outside dormitories, while 626 work permit holders residing in dormitories.
