KOTA BARU: Police picked up 12 suspects hours after two groups held a "table talk" over a 23-year-old woman here early Monday.
The two groups of five and seven men, all ages between 20 and 27, were talking at a restaurant in Jalan Sri Cemerlang at 12.15am when the "discussions" broke down and a quarrel ensued.
As the group of seven men drove away, the leader of the other group shot twice at the car.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mazlan Lazin said the incident occurred during a 'table talk' which was meant to solve a disagreement over the woman.
"It went out of control and turned into a quarrel and the leader of the five-men group fired two shots at the other group's car to show his might," he said adding that police responded to emergency calls from the public.
"An operation was immediately launched and we arrested two suspects from the five-men group at a petrol station in Jalan Kebun Sultan. Another three members were picked up in a raid at a house on the same road," he added.
"Police found two casings fired from a handgun at the scene," Mazlan said.
Police seized, among others, an Austrian-made Steyr handgun, three bullets and a sword sheath from the suspects.
"The handgun was still loaded with three bullets," said Mazlan.
