KUALA LUMPUR: Police conducted a three-day long operation to weed out errant motorcyclists and mat rempit here.

City traffic chief Asst Comm Zulkefly Yahya said the operations, which began on Friday, involved 221 policemen from Bukit Aman, Dang Wangi and City police headquarters

"We arrested three people for drug possession, giving false statements as well as a wanted person during the operation.

"We issued 854 summonses for various offences," he told reporters when met at the scene of the operations on Sunday on Jalan Raja Laut.

He said the most common offences were fancy number plates (145 summonses), number plate not to specifications (133), not affixing number plates (105) not having a valid drivers license (103) and expired road tax (93).

"We received numerous complaints about mat rempit activities in the city, which prompted us to take action," he said, adding that enforcement would be strict.
