PETALING JAYA: A salesman, who was riding a Harley-Davidson with a siren and a supposed logo of Las Vegas police, was nabbed after he escorted a convoy of 10 big bikes and two cars.

The 34-year-old man was stopped at about 10.45pm on Tuesday at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman by the Dang Wangi district and Kuala Lumpur traffic police.

While the rest of the vehicles managed to evade authorities, police managed to nab the man and his high-powered motorcycle.

“Checks on the machine showed that it was fitted with (police) lights at the front, back and side.

“A siren was also affixed to it,” said Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Legal Affairs staff officer Deputy Supt Shafie Daud.

“The word ‘police’ was found on the front and sides, together with a logo that said ‘Metropolitan Police, Las Vegas, Clark County Nevada’,” he told reporters yesterday.

DSP Shafie said it was an offence to have a vehicle fitted with police lights and sirens without approval from the authorities.

To a question, he said the man was not wearing police uniform then.

“Early investigations showed that he works as a salesmen dealing with high-powered bikes.

“His bike was registered under someone else’s name. We are now looking for the registered owner and the rest of the convoy,” DSP Shafie said.

The case is being investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a public servant.

He said there had been six such cases this year.

“While we can’t say for certain that this is a rising trend, we are keeping tabs on it,” DSP Shafie said.
