KUALA LUMPUR: Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, has submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In a media statement, Nik Nazmi announced that his resignation would take effect on July 4, 2025, but he would begin his leave today until July 3.
According to Nik Nazmi, he is grateful for the opportunity to serve in the Cabinet, starting as the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change from December 2022 to December 2023, and then as the Minister of NRES from December 2023 to July 2025.
"Given that I was unable to successfully defend the position in the recent party elections, I have decided to resign as Minister.
"I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the competent civil servants, the excellent team in my office, as well as all parties from the public, private and civil society sectors who have taught me a lot and made it possible to implement various important reforms throughout this period.
"We always strive to take an open approach and consult with all parties in formulating policies and introducing laws," he said.
He added that he is now looking forward to the opportunity to return to carrying out his responsibilities and focus as the Member of Parliament for Setiawangsa.
