Syamsul Yusof ready to pronounce divorce, wife not in court

KUALA LUMPUR: The Gombak Timur Syariah Lower Court was today informed that film director Syamsul Yusof was ready to pronounce the divorce on his wife, Ira Kazar

However, lawyer Azmi Mohd Rais, representing Syamsul, whose real name is Mohd Shamsul Md Yusof, told the court that Ira, whose real name is Faghira Fatini Kazaruddin, 29, was not in court today as she only appointed a lawyer recently.


"I was informed that the defendant (Ira) has appointed a lawyer, Muhammad Fadhil Abd Razak, and he informed me that Ira will not be attending court proceedings today. So I advised my client (Syamsul) not to attend today's proceedings, even though he was ready to pronounce the divorce today.

"I'm not sure if Ira agrees with this divorce application considering that she has appointed a lawyer. Therefore, I request the court to set a new date for mention of the case so we can hear explanations from Ira's lawyer," he said.

The case came up for mention before Syarie Judge Maizatul Aliza Chee Din.

Legal assistant Ahmad Fuad Borhan, appearing on behalf of Muhammad Fadhil, told the court that they had filed the "wakalah" (appointment letter of attorney) and notice to that effect was sent to the plaintiff's lawyer this afternoon.

Judge Maizatul Aliza then set Sept 25 for mention.

Syamsul, 40, filed the divorce application last Aug 19 under Section 4 of the Islamic Family Law (State of Selangor) Enactment.

He married Ira, who is actor Kaza Saisi's daughter, on Jan 6 last year in South Thailand 2023 and then registered the marriage in Perlis on Jan 20 the same year.

It is Syamsul's second marriage. He was previously married to Puteri Sarah, whose real name is Puteri Sarah Liyana Megat Kamaruddin, 39, before they divorced on Jun 14, 2023.

Syamsul and Puteri Sarah were married on March 8, 2014, and they were blessed with two children, Syaikhul Islam, 7, and Sumayyah, 5.
