EC chief Datuk Seri Mohd Hashim Abdullah said the ruling coalition has won at least 42 out of the 82 seats contested as at 8.40pm.
As of 9pm, Barisan is leading with 61 seats, DAP (5) and PKR (2).
He said the full results and voter turnout would be announced later. The voter turnout at 4pm was recorded at 52%.

Landslide win: BN takes 72 out of 82 seats
9.45PM: Sarawak BN has captured a total of 72 seats in the 82-seat state assembly or 87.8 percent of the House.
This means the ruling coalition succeeded in reversing the opposition's gains achieved in 2011.
In 2011, BN captured 55 out of 70 seats or 78.6 percent of the House.
The performance is similar to its achievement in the 2006 state election where it captured 88.6 percent of the state assembly or 62 out of 70 seats.
SUPP boss coy on DCM post
9.40PM: SUPP president Dr Sim Kui Hian remains coy on the possibility of being appointed deputy chief minister.
"It is the right of the chief minister to select his cabinet.
“We appreciate his consideration and the most important thing for us is that we can fight for the people's interests.
“We can serve the people better bearing in mind we have a national election in two years time," he said.
Adenan to be sworn in as chief minister tonight
9.35PM: Sarawak BN chairperson Adenan Satem will be sworn-in as chief minister, following a landslide win in the state polls.
Malaysiakini had sighted an invitation sent to a minister, which said the ceremony would take place at the state governor’s palace Astana in Kuching.
The 72-year-old politician’s popularity rating had been at a record high coming into the election, and the huge win was expected.
Adenan was appointed as chief minister in 2014, replacing Abdul Taib Mahmud, who is now the governor.
BN’s Lee Kim Shin wins Senadin for fifth term
9.10PM: Incumbent Senadin assemblyperson Lee Kim Shin extends his reign for a fifth term after drubbing the opposition.
Lee even managed to increase his majority 61-fold from a mere 58-vote majority in 2011 to a solid 3,538 vote lead over DAP's Dr Bob Baru Langub.
Lee had bagged 10,683 votes to Bob's 7,145.
The stronger showing this time around may be due to a change in the racial makeup of Senadin's voters, from a Chinese majority seat to a Bumiputera majority one.
BN secures two-third majority
9.05PM: BN smashes through the two-third majority barrier and is expected to form the state government with a super-majority.
It has captured 57 seats and is likely to snatch a few more.
DAP appears to have been defeated in all the bumiputera seats it contested and lost five out of 12 urban seats it held.
PKR succeeded in defending all three of its seats and appears to have made some inroads in the Dayak heartland, but not enough to capture new seats.
DAP’s Christina Chiew concedes defeat in Batu Kawah
9.00PM: Christina Chiew concedes defeat in Batu Kawah, the seat which she won in the last state election.
She was defeated by SUPP president Dr Sim Kui Hian.
“I saw the majority (of Sim). It is too big to cover. I concede defeat," she told Malaysiakini.
She said the low voter turnout rate contributed to her defeat, especially the young voters.
"Especially in young voters' stream, the turnout rate was 50 percent When turnout rate is low, it works against us," she added.
In thanking voters, Sim also revealed that SUPP recaptured Repok, Meradong and Piasau from DAP while retaining Simanggang and Senadin. SUPP also won in Batu Kitang.
DAP, PKR lose all ‘friendly fire’ seats, backlash from voters?
8.50PM: DAP and PKR have lost all the six seats in which the two Pakatan Harapan allies locked horns following the failure of seat negotiations.
The six seats were Batu Kintang, Ngemah, Mambong, Marudi, Murum and Mulu.
In some cases, the combined votes of candidates from both parties fell short of the BN candidates’ votes.
Observers believe that this could be a result of a backlash from voters.
Both parties have since blamed each other for the situation.
'Team Adenan' forms government, on track for two-third majority
8.45PM: BN has finally hit the magic number to form the government in Sarawak.
It won at least 46 seats in the 82-seat state assembly and is expected to pick up many more, putting it on track to achieve a two-third majority in the state assembly.
BN only needs nine more seats to secure the two-third majority, which the opposition had hoped to deny.
PAS, Amanah lost in all contested seats
8:43PM: PAS and its splinter party, Amanah, lost all their contested seats in Sarawak.
Star Online reports PAS conceded defeat in all its seat that it contested, declared its state party secretary Mukhtar Suhaili.
PAS contested in 11 state seats compared to five in the 2011 state election. The Islamist party contested in Samariang, Pantai Damai, Muara Tuang, Sadong Jaya, Sebuyau, Beting Maro, Kakus, Jepak, Samalaju, Lambir and Pujut.
Amanah also lost all 13 seats that it contested. PAS and Amanah clashed in five seats, namely Samariang, Muara Tuang, Sadong Jaya, Sebuyau and Beting Maro.
DAP’s ‘giant killer’ slain in Piasau
8.40PM: Piasau, Miri - DAP's Alan 'the giant killer' Ling has been slain at the ballot box by his BN opponent Sebastian Ting with an impressive majority of 2,112 votes.
Ting received 7,799 votes in total, while Ling only managed to secure 5,687 of the ballots.
Ling had won the seat in 2011 with a 1,590 vote majority.
This year's results seems to indicate a swing among Chinese voters towards BN, with strong backing from Bumiputera voters, including the Dayak community.
Ling told reporters that he was “very disappointed” with the resulted, but accepted the decision.
"We will study the reason for this defeat. It may be due to the new CM,” he said.
"Money politics was also very obvious in this round," he alleged.
DAP’s Ting conquers ‘sideburns’ in Pujut
8.35PM: DAP's Ting Tiong Choon has won the Pujutseat with a 1,759 vote majority.
Ting bagged 8,899 ballots while his closest competitor BN's Hii King Chiong, who is known for his mutton chop sideburns, received 7,140 votes.
Turnout was 65.3 percent.
Ting has yet to arrive at the ballot counting centre, while Hii appears resigned to the outcome.
Pujut however looks set to be DAP's only seat in northern Sarawak, as it is losing in both Piasau and Senadin.
Adenan retains Tanjong Datu seat with huge majority
8.30PM: The Election Commission has announced that Chief Minister Adenan Satem retained his Tanjong Datu seat with an overwhelming majority of 5,892 votes, defeating PKR's Jazolkipli Numan who only managed to gain 468 votes.
Adenan garnered 6,360 votes from the total 6,936 votes cast. There were 77 spoilt votes and voter turnout was 70.1 percent.
BN wins Batu Kitang, gets more votes than PKR, DAP combined
8:20PM: DAP candidate Abdul Aziz Isa has conceded defeat in the Batu Kitang seat, where he was fielded at the eleventh hour in retaliation against PKR, following its refusal to budge from five other seats.
In posting on Facebook, Aziz congratulated BN’s Lo Khere Chiang for winning the seat.
"Although I lost with marginal votes but it was a great fight. The battle of the year! This is my first time contesting and I would like to thank to all of our DAP supporters," he said.
Both PKR and DAP have blamed each other for the failure of the seat negotiations.
As of 8.20pm, DAP garnered 4,628 votes, while PKR has 889 votes. The combined votes of both parties still falls short of BN’s 6,494 votes.
DAP concedes defeat in Meradong and Repok
8.10PM - Sibu: BN has successfully recaptured Meradong and Repok from DAP, both Chinese-majority seats under the parliamentary seat of Sarikei. The DAP candidates in the two state seats have conceded defeat.
"Yes, we lost in Meradong. We lose in Iban areas, plus some Chinese votes (went) back to BN," writes incumbent Ting Tze Fui on her Facebook.
In Meradong, BN’s SUPP candidate Ding Kuong Hiing bagged 6,379 votes against Ting’s 5,264 votes, according to unofficial results.
Whereas in Repok, SUPP candidate Huang Tiong Sii has garnered 7,446 votes against DAP’s Yong Siew Wei 6,508 votes in a three-cornered fight, according to unofficial results. Independent candidate Wong Ching King has 381 votes.
"I have lost in this election, but I would like to thank everyone for helping and supporting me in this election. Anyway, I have no regret in contesting this election," Yong says.
DAP may lose five of its seats
7.56PM: The situation appears bleak for DAP as the party may lose at least five of its seats to BN.
They are Dudong, Meradong, Piasau, Repok andBatu Kawah.
In Dudong, DAP is struggling to keep up with 7,381 votes against BN's 8,839 votes. Star captured 152 votes while two independent candidates got 3,516 votes in total.
In Meradong, BN leads with 6,379 votes to DAP's 5,264 votes.
In Piasau, DAP's Alan Ling with 5,605 votes is trailing BN's Sebatian Ting who has 7,243 votes.
The situation is also grim in Repok, where BN is ahead with 7,446 votes to DAP's 6,508 votes. The independent candidate has 381 votes.
Likewise, in Batu Kawah, BN is ahead with 5,177 votes to DAP's 3,639 votes. The independent candidate garnered 920 votes.
The opposition may also lose Batu Kitang due to a clash between DAP and PKR.
Baru thanks voters, says united opposition crucial
7.55PM: Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian thanks voters for returning him to the rural seat of Ba’Kelalan, which he won in 2011.
He says this is in spite of “incredible promises and huge amounts of money being poured into the area by the PM, the DPM and hordes of BN ministers and politicians”.
“The results also show that the voters have faith in our incumbents, Ali Biju (Krian) and See Chee How (Batu Lintang), who have successfully retained their seats.”
Baru stresses that there are lessons to be learned from this state election.
“If we do not come together as a team, Pakatan Harapan will be punished by the voters. We have to work as a coalition rather than as individual parties...
“We now can confidently say that a united opposition front is the only formula to face BN in the next general election...”
PKR retains Batu Lintang
7.53PM: Unofficial results shows that PKR's See Chee How has retained the Batu Lintang seat with a majority of over 4,000 votes.
See garnered 8,598 votes, while BN's Sih Hua Tong from SUPP gained 5,146 votes and Star's So Lina only got 275 votes.
This victory means all PKR incumbents have retained their seats.
BN keeps Tasik Biru, DAP fails in ‘litmus test’
7.50PM: Unofficial results reveal that BN has defended its Tasik Biru seat, which DAP cited as a ‘litmus test’ to make inroads into bumiputera-majority constituencies.
BN's Henry Jinep polled 6,916 votes against DAP's Mordi Bimol, who received 5,674 votes, to secure a majority of 1,242 votes. The voter turnout was 72 percent.
Tasik Biru has a total of 16,869 voters
Kit Siang: This will be a long grim night for DAP
7.45PM: As the results pour in from the various constituencies, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has acknowledged that the outcome of the state election may be disappointing for the party.
“It’s going to be grim long night as 11th Sarawak GE results come in - a test of resilience, perseverance and stamina in political struggle,” he tweeted.
DAP may lose Piasau
7.42PM: Unofficial results seem to indicate that BN may recapture Piasau from DAP, and keep its hold onSenadin.
In Piasau, BN's Sebastian Ting has 5,008 votes, while incumbent DAP assemblyperson Alan Ling is trailing behind with 3,952 votes.
In Senadin, meanwhile, BN’s incumbent four-term assemblyperson Lee Kim Shin has 5,884 votes, far ahead of DAP contender Bob Baru Langub, who has 3,635 votes.
Close fight in Marudi, site of controversial Baram Dam
7:39PM - Preliminary results suggest a close fight in one the three state constituencies in Baram, with BN in the lead but PKR close behind.
At Telang Usan that has become the heart of the Baram Dam issue, BN’s Dennis Ngau has narrowly defeated the dam’s outspoken opponent Roland Engan of PKR.
Meanwhile in Marudi, BN candidate Penguang Manggil has garnered 2,268 votes thus far, while PKR’s Elia Bit managed 2,084 votes – a majority of 284 votes in Penguang’s favour. The tally is based on 31 out of 61 polling streams.
Notably, the preliminary results suggest that the turnout rate is far below average in Marudi, which is at about 30 percent. This is possibly a result of the fallout between Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) and it’s splinter party, the Sarawak People’s Energy Party (Teras), in the constituency.
In the newly formed Mulu constituency however, the count from 25 out of 43 polling streams suggest that BN candidate Gerawat Gala is leading comfortably.
He has garnered 2,230 votes thus far, compared to PKR’s Pauls Baya’s 1,306 votes, DAP’s Paul Raja’s 214 votes, and independent candidate Roland Dom Mattu’s 180 votes. This gives Gerawat a 924-vote lead.
Thai King set to wrest Dudong from DAP
7.25PM, Sibu - According to unofficial results, BN'sDudong candidate Tong Thai King has garnered a solid lead with 7,449 votes and looked set to wrest the seat away from DAP. His rival, incumbent state representative Yap Hoi Liong, is behind with 5,376 votes.
Meanwhile, Independent Benny Lee ranks third with 2,848 votes, STAR's Ting Yiik Hong has 127 votes, and independent Casper Kayong, 178 votes.
In the last state polls, Tiong was defeated by Yap by a mere 317-vote majority.
DAP retains Bukit Assek stronghold
7:20PM: Unofficial - DAP candidate Irene Mary Chang Oi Ling wins the Bukit Assek seat and doubles her vote count.
Chang has garnered 11,392 votes against BN's Chieng Buong Toon who has 6,895 votes and Star's Moh Hiong King who obtained 374 votes.
Bukit Assek has always been a DAP stronghold as the last assemblyperson was the late Wong Ho Leng.
Ngemeh: BN, Independent in close race, PKR and DAP trail far behind
7.15PM: Unofficial - BN-PRS candidate Alexander Vincent, with 2,171 votes, is only 29 votes ahead of independent candidate Joseph Jawa Kendawang in theNgemah seat.
This is a four-cornered fight, which also has PKR and DAP in the race. PKR has 191 votes whereas DAP has 145.
BN wins Mambong - another PKR vs DAP seat
7.10PM: Unofficial results has put BN in the lead inMambong, one of the six seats in which allies PKR and DAP are locking horns.
BN direct candidate Jerip Susil has garnered 5,648 votes, whereas DAP’s Sanjan Daik came in second with 2,828 votes. PKR’s Willie Mongin polled 2,611 votes.
DAP has conceded defeat.
BN keeps Telang Usan with 160-vote majority
7.15PM: BN’s incumbent has retained the Telang Usanseat with a razor-thin 160-vote majority against PKR's Roland Engan.
In the previous election, Dennis Ngau won with a 845-vote majority in the last election.
The seat comprises 95 percent non-Muslim bumiputera, four percent Chinese and one percent Melanau.
It was a key seat that PKR was eyeing as the constituency was affected by the Baram dam.
BN leads in Batu Kitang, where allies clash
7.00PM: BN is ahead in Batu Kitang where DAP and PKR are locking horns following the failure of seat negotiations.
The SUPP candidate Loh Khere Chiang has 3,175 votes while DAP’s Abdul Aziz Isa, an eleventh hour candidate is in second with 1,955 votes.
PKR’s Voon Shiak Ni is trailing with 428 votes.
Battle for Chinese-majority urban seats
6.50PM: In four incumbent Kuching DAP urban Chinese seats, DAP is leading in Padungan, Pending and Kota Sentosa while falling behind in Batu Kawah.
The first three are considered safe seats for DAP while the last is a close tussle between SUPP president Dr Sim Kui Hian against incumbent DAP's Christina Chiew.

Unofficial: BN has commanding lead over DAP in three rural Dayak seats
6.50PM: According to unofficial results, BN is far ahead in three seats under Kapit, which are Pelagus, Katibasand Bukit Goram.
All three are rural Dayak seats that DAP had hoped to penetrate, with even Lim Kit Siang campaigning in the constituencies.
In Pelagus, BN-PRS candidate Wilson Nyabong Ijang is leading with 1,351 votes, capturing nearly 90 percent of the votes, whereas his opponent DAP Frankie Bendindang Manjah has only 164 votes and independent Yong Sibat, 35 votes.
In Katibas, BN-PBB candidate Ambrose Blikau is leading the straight fight with 3,660 votes, while DAP’s Paren Nyawi has 1,295 votes.
In Bukit Goram, BN-PBB Jefferson Jamit Unyat has 3,893 votes while DAP’s Larry Asap has 1,938 votes.
Unofficial: PKR retains Krian seat
6.45pm: Unofficial: PKR successfully retains its second seat in Krian.
The party says its candidate Ali Biju won with a majority of some 1,600 votes against Kilat Beriak.
In the last election, Biju won the seat by a 2,090-vote majority.
S’wak DAP chief bounces back, leads BN
6.40pm: Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen surges into the lead after lagging behind the BN candidate inKota Sentosa earlier.
Chong now leads with 6,639 votes against BN's 5,122.
Federal minister wins Bukit Saban
6:38pm: Unofficial - Federal minister Douglas Uggah Embas wins the Bukit Saban state seat with 4,357 votes.
THE PBB vice-president’s opponent PKR’s Noel Changgai Bucking only garnered 845 votes.
Uggah is speculated to be appointed as the next Sarawak' deputy chief minister.
SUPP chief leads in Batu Kawah do-or-die battle
6.30PM: SUPP president Dr Sim Kui Hian is leading incumbent DAP's Christina Chiew by 1,587 votes in the race for Batu Kawah. Sim has 2,743 votes while Liew has 1,156.
The contest is touted as a do-or-die battle for Sim, for whom a defeat could lead to him being pressured to step down.
Batu Kawah is considered a marginal seat for DAP as Chiew only managed to win by 543 votes in the 2011 state election.
Batu Kawah is a Chinese-majority seat with the community making up 60.1 percent of the total number of voters.
DAP leads BN’s ‘sideburns’ in Pujut
6.25PM: According to DAP unofficial results, its candidate Ting Tiong Choon is ahead with 365 votes for the Pujut seat.
Whereas the incumbent Fong Pau Teck, who was sacked from DAP, only managed to get 13 votes.
BN's Hii King Chiong, who is known for his mutton chop sideburns, is in second place with 265 votes while PAS’ Jofrie Jaraiee has 4 votes.
BN leads in Sarawak DAP chief’s stronghold
6.30pm: Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen is trailing behind BN-SUPP candidate Wilfred Yap by some 500 votes in the Kota Sentosa seat.
Chong was a two-term Kota Sentosa state assemblyperson.
At the moment, Yap is ahead with 3,147 votes whereas Chong has 2,646 votes.
BN leads in Repok, Meradong - won by DAP in last polls
According to unofficial results, in Repok, BN SUPP candidate Huang Tiong Sii is ahead in the three-corner fight with 2,359 votes (62.26%), whereas DAP candidate Yong Siew Wei has 1,359 votes (35.87%). Independent candidate Wong Ching King has only 71 votes.
Whereas in Meradong, BN SUPP candidate Ding Kuong Hiing is leading with 3,554 votes (58.73%) whereas DAP’s Ting Tze Fui has 2,497 votes (41.27%).
Sarawak PKR chief reportedly retains Ba’Kelalan seat
5.50pm: Unofficial - PKR reports that its candidate and Sarawak chief Baru Bian has retained the Ba'Kelalanseat with a bigger majority.
Baru polled 2,856 votes against BN's Williw Liau who garnered 2,311 votes, a 545-vote majority.
The turnout was about 70.6 percent.
In the last election, Baru won by a 473-vote majority.
Chinese-majority seats in focus
5.45pm: Some of the constituencies in focus are the Chinese-majority seats near Sibu, namely Bawang Assan, Dudong and Bukit Assek.
Dudong is a marginal seat which DAP won last time around, and DAP has been eyeing to expand its reach into Sarawak.
Bukit Assek is the traditional stronghold of DAP, and losing here will signal that it may have lost substantial support in the state.

Wong Soon Koh blazes ahead in Bawang Assan race
5.30pm: BN direct candidate Wong Soon Koh has a commanding lead in the five-cornered fight for theBawang Assan seat in Sibu.
He is ahead of the pack with 2,192 votes (60.62%), nearly double that of DAP’s Stanley Chiew, who has 1,195 votes (33.05%).
Bawang Assan is the only Chinese-majority seat in the Sibu area which DAP failed to win in the last state poll.
Wong has won the seat since 1996. In the last polls, he secured a majority of 1,808 votes.
The constituency has 18,340 voters, comprising 53% Chinese, 41% non-Muslim Bumiputera, six percent of Malay and Melanau.
BN ahead in Meradong, which DAP won in last polls
5.30pm: BN is leading against DAP in the Meradongseat, which the opposition party won in the last state election.
As of now, 25% of the votes have been counted. BN is ahead with 2,772 votes while DAP has 1,482.
The constituency has 16,882 voters.
DAP trails in ‘litmus test’ Tasik Biru
5.15pm: DAP has described Tasik Biru as a litmus test for the party on whether it can make inroads into Dayak constituencies.
But for now, BN has a commanding lead in the constituency.
BN's Henry Jinep is ahead with 3,989 votes while DAP's Mordi Bimol has 2,678 votes.
The seat comprises 68 percent non-Muslim bumiputera, 25 percent Chinese and six percent Malay and Melanau.
Since Tasik Biru has nearly 17,000 voters, the current figures reflect 40% of the total voters.
PKR: DAP not faring as well as us in three-corner fights in interior seats
5pm: PKR strategies director Sim Tze Tzin believes the party can retain its three seats - Batu Lintang, Krianand Ba'kelalan.
He says preliminary results indicate that PKR can make inroads in Dayak areas.
"Interior Dayak voters especially Iban and Bidayuh continue to swing to PKR.
"It is definitely an improvement from previous elections. Whether the swing is big enough to win remains to be seen," he says.
Sim adds that DAP is not performing as well as PKR in three-corner fights in the interiors.
"Low turnout will hurt opposition parties because BN has a stronger machinery and more money," he adds.
Some polling stations close, counting starts
4.45pm: Some small polling stations in the interiors have closed.
The votes are immediately counted at the respective polling stations before they are added up at the tallying centre.
This means preliminary results are already available in some seats.
PKR vice-president Tian Chua says BN is currently ahead in Murum and Mulu which are Orang Ulu seats affected by dam projects.
PKR is the incumbent in neighbouring Ba'kelalan which has similar demography to the two seats.
