Dept: No amnesty for illegals

PETALING JAYA: Undocumented workers who enter Malaysia illegally are not entitled for amnesty and employers hiring them will face action, said the Immigration Department.
It’s director-general Datuk Sakib Kusmi said that workers who entered the country through illegal entry points cannot apply for the rehiring programme.
The rehiring programme, which started last month, is to give an opportunity to those working illegally to get valid permits and for employers to meet labour demands.
Last Saturday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that the deadline of the rehiring programme to legalise existing illegal foreign workers would be brought forward from Dec 31 to June 30.On a different issue, Sakib also urged foreign workers and employers to keep a receipt of acknowledgement from companies mandated by the Home Ministry for the rehiring programme.
The three vendors approved by the Home Ministry are Bukti Megah Sdn Bhd, International Marketing and Net Resources Sdn Bhd (Iman) and MyEG.
Sakib said the vendors may have their own ways to keep track and update the progress of the workers’ applications.
What was vital, he said, was for the workers and employers to have the receipt of acknowledgement from the companies.
“It has to be with the workers so that they can produce it to the enforcement authorities when needed.
“The receipt or document will have the details and references that will make it easier for the authorities to check,” he said.
