NGOs protest against citizens’ declaration at Perdana Leadership Foundation
PUTRAJAYA: A large crowd comprising leaders and members of various organisations gathered at the Perdana Leadership Foundation office to submit a memorandum to protest against the citizens’ declaration initiated by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Datuk Jamal Md Yunos, who led the coalition of NGOs, said the group was disappointed that the former prime minister was now working with his "enemies" to oust a sitting leader.
"We are extremely upset with Tun Dr Mahathir's actions, and we were his loyalists and supporters. But what he is doing is unacceptable.
"Not only is he working with the Opposition, he is doing it to topple Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, the leader of a government that is democratically elected," Jamal said outside the Foundation office here Friday.
Jamal said while the coalition support the freedom of expression and speech, openness must come with ethics, discipline and patriotism.
He also expressed disappointment over the actions by former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, former Kedah mentri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir and several other Umno leaders for cohorting with the Opposition, especially DAP.
