KUALA LUMPUR: A scrap metal store, believed to be a shelter for dogs, caught fire at Jalan Metro 3, Metro Prima, Kepong yesterday.
It was learnt the store was also used as a shelter for about 40 dogs.
The store owner’s brother, who only wanted to be known as Sathilayseelan, said the whole family was out for dinner at a nearby restaurant when they were informed of the fire.
“We rushed back and immediately rescued the dogs. We only managed to save about eight of the dogs. Some managed to escape while others are still missing,” he said, adding 10 dogs were feared to be dead.
“As of now, we only discovered carcasses of two dogs among the metals,” he said when met at the scene.
City Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Azizan Ismail said the department received a distress call at 10.24pm.
“Twenty-one firemen were deployed and they managed to control the fire about an hour later,” he said.
