PETALING JAYA: Six policemen have pleaded not guilty at the Kuantan Special Corruption Sessions Court for bribery involving RM8,000.
On Thursday, the six who were from the Muadzam Shah police station were also charged with not reporting bribery.
If found guilty, they can be fined not less than RM10,000 or five times the bribe they received, whichever is higher, and be jailed for a maximum 20 years.
The accused are Koperal Mazlan Muhd Nor, 34, Lans Koperal Mohd Azmie Majid @Majied, 29, Konstabel Mohamad Firdaus Abdullah, 24, Koperal Mohd Juhairy Jamaludin, 32, Lans Koperal Mohd Hazly Tomiran, 29, and Konstabel Mohd Hafizi Abdullah, 28.
They are alleged to have taken bribes for not taking action against a lorry driver who did not have the permits and licences to transport rubberwood.
They allegedly committed the offence on Dec 18 last year at a restaurant in Muadzam Shah, Rompin.
Deputy public prosecutor Syafinas Shabudin represented the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Judge Habibah Mohamed Yusof allowed the accused bail of RM5,000 for each of the accused with one surety. The case will be mentioned again on Sept 3.
