Dr Mahathir to visit Japan from Aug 6 - 9

PETALING JAYA (Bernama): Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be visiting Fukuoka and Oita, Japan from Monday (Aug 6) until Thursday (Aug 9) on a working visit, said the Foreign Ministry.
It said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 5) that Dr Mahathir would be accompanied by his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik and Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook as well as officials from Wisma Putra.
Dr Mahathir is scheduled to deliver his keynote address at the Japan Future Leaders School and Kyushu Asian Institute of Leadership.
He will also meet Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan Hiroto Izumi and visit the Kyushu Railway Company Safety Creation Centre, the Groovenauts Inc. Technology Park in Fukuoka and the Ritsumeikan University in Oita.
"It will also allow Malaysia to enhance its bilateral cooperation with Japan, especially in the fields of education, technology and transportation," it added.
The Foreign Ministry said that Malaysia and Japan continues to maintain close bilateral relations in many areas of cooperation, with bilateral trade totalling RM138.5 billion in 2017 - a 14.7 per cent increase compared to 2016. Japan is Malaysia's fourth largest trading partner after China, Singapore and the United States. - Bernama
