PUTRAJAYA: The remains of Seri Setia Assemblyman Prof Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin who passed away at 6.28pm today, has been brought out of the Putrajaya Hospital’s Forensic Department.

The hearse carrying the late Shaharuddin, 56, was seen leaving the hospital at about 9.30pm.

Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad as well as acquaintances of the late Shaharuddin were also seen at the hospital vicinity.

Zafrullah Aris, the deceased’s senior secretary confirmed that Shaharuddin’s remains will be brought to his residence at Desa Pinggiran Putra, Kajang tonight.

“His remains are expected to be brought to the Jamiurrahmah Mosque at Kampung Limau Manis, Sungai Merab at 9am tomorrow and then burial would take place at Kampung Limau Manis Cemetery,” she added.

It is understood that Shaharuddin has been receiving treatment at Putrajaya Hospital since last Tuesday.

On Monday, a news portal reported that Shaharuddin had been suffering from colon cancer and was critically ill.

However, his family had denied the report, stating that Shaharuddin was resting after receiving treatment. They also urged people not speculate.

Shaharuddin was the state executive councillor as well as PKR vice-president.

In the 14th general elections, Shaharuddin won the Setia Alan seat with a majority of 19,372 votes.

He defeated BN’s Yusoff M Haniff, Pas’s Mohd Ghazali Daud and independent S Vigneswaran.

He is the third Assemblyman to pass away recently.

On July 2, Sungai Kandis assemblyman Mat Shuhaimie Shafie, who was the political secretary to Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali when he was Selangor Menteri Besar, passed away after succumbing to lymphatic cancer.
