Man gets 20 years in jail for robbing boutique, raping sales assistant

KUALA TERENGGANU: A man arrested for robbing a boutique and raping a sales assistant was sentenced 20 years in jail and 35 strokes of the rotan after pleading guilty to his crimes.
Mohamad Nurhadi Othman, 25, was charged with two counts of robbery and four counts of sexual assault including sodomising the victim and forcing her to perform oral sex.
He pleaded guilty to the crimes before judges Rofiah Mohamad and Azman Mustapha at separate Sessions Court rooms on Thursday (Aug 9).
He committed the crimes on Aug 1 in Jalan Bukit Kecil at around 10pm.
In the incident, he had taken the boutique's earnings of about RM2,600.
He also took two bracelets and a ring belonging to the 23-year-old victim.
Rofiah meted out 10 years in jail for each act of robbery as well as 12 strokes of the cane.
She also ruled for the sentences to run concurrently.
Meanwhile, Azman ordered Mohamad Nurhadi to serve 20 years in jail and eight strokes of the rotan for raping the victim.
He also sentenced Azman to 15 years in jail and five strokes of the cane for two accounts of sodomy and forcing the victim to perform oral sex.
He also ordered for the sentences to run concurrently from the date of the accused's arrest.
DPP Syazwani Zawawi and Nur Zafirah Rosli prosecuted.
