In his speech, Rafizi stated his intention to go for PKR’s no. 2 post to help Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim become prime minister, and vouched never to abandon the needs of the grassroots.

Rafizi also hinted that party vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar has agreed to defend her post as a part of his team but added that it would be best for her to make the actual announcement. ‘Reformasi 20 Tahun’ was held to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the ‘reformasi’ movement.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 — PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli today formally announced several big names to be part of his camp for the party’s internal election next month.

He named several PKR lawmakers — including Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar for vice-president, deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh for Wanita chief, and Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad as a member of its central leadership council.

Sungai Petani MP Datuk Johari Abdul, Selayang MP William Leong and Sungai Siput MP S. Kesavan were three others endorsed for the vice-presidential posts.

Rafizi also endorsed Batu Tiga assemblyman Rodziah Ismail for the Wanita deputy chief.

Johor Baru MP Akmal Nasir was tipped by Rafizi to take over the baton from incumbent Youth wing chief Nik Nazmi, and Sabah Youth chief Raymon Ahuar for the deputy wing chief.

Aside from Nik Nazmi, 18 out of 20 endorsed by Rafizi to contest for the council posts included Kapar MP Datuk Abdullah Sani, Subang MP Wong Chen, and Hulu Selangor MP June Leow.

“I am only campaigning based on idealism our value and votes are based on the reformation idealism that we had upheld the past 20 years.

“Our mandate to the people is to uphold the reformation agenda don’t think if we are not careful, we would remain in power we should not be comfortable, otherwise we will be like Umno,” he said in his speech when announcing his election team.

Rafizi gave four reasons behind him contesting, which included helping PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s purported transition into the country’s eighth prime minister, stamping out the culture of feudalism within the party, strengthening the party, and helping the grassroots.

The party will go to the polls at the end of August.
