KUALA LUMPUR: Jho Low is believed to be travelling on a Saint Kitts and Nevis passport, said Immigration Director-General Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali

“In the Jho Low matter, we are definitely working with the police. We revoked his Malaysian passport on June 15 on a request from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over an investigation into 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

“And we believe he is using another passport - of Saint Kitts and Nevis - to move about,” he told reporters at Menara Ilham here on Thursday (July 12).

Saint Kitts and Nevis is a a small island nation located in the Caribbean.

Asked about the extent of travel that could be made with that passport, Mustafar said: “It depends”.

He said the department did not have further information and had to wait for developments from the police.

Media reports said that a police team seeking Jho Low in Hong Kong learned that he had left for Macau.

The Star reported that Malaysia has applied for a Red Notice to seek assistance from countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, India, Myanmar, China and Hong Kong via Interpol, and Taiwan via diplomatic channels to arrest Low.

Jho Low has reportedly been in Phuket, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.

Now, he is believed to have fled to either mainland China, Thailand or to Saint Kitts and Nevis.

"From there, he can hop to the many surrounding island countries, where law enforcement there is said to be lax.”

Malaysia does not have an extradition treaty with many of these island nations in the Caribbean.

Last month, Low’s Malaysian passport was cancelled by the Immigration Department to restrict his movements.

However, with a Saint Kitts and Nevis passport, a person can travel without a visa to over 140 countries, including Canada, Britain and Europe.

The source told The Star that Saint Kitts and Nevis citizenship and passport could be easily obtained for a price.

It can be bought via a US$250,000 (RM1mil) cash donation to the country’s Sugar Industry Diversification Foundation or by buying real estate worth at least US$400,000 (RM1..
