SHAH ALAM: Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed (pic) has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa as Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN), reported Sinar Harian.

Ali, 63, will retire in August after his service was continued on a contractual basis during the administration of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

If this suggestion gets the approval from Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V under the advice of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the National Centre for Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption (GIACC) that is helmed by Abu Kassim could be placed under the KSN.

The Malay daily reported that this would make KSN more focused on the Government's commitment to root out corruption at every level

A source said that Abu Kassim, who was the former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief, said that he could be appointed as KSN in early July.

"The choice of Abu Kassim was made as Dr Mahathir said that he wanted his expertise in eradicating corruption.

"He has a lot of experience from his days in MACC. He is also experienced at the international level and has networked with several anti-corruption agencies, besides giving lectures on the subject," said the source.

Abu Kassim was supposed to retire from MACC on Dec 4 this year, but the date was brought forward to Aug 1, 2016, upon his request.

His place was taken over by Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad at a time when the country was hit by the 1MDB scandal and investigations of SRC International, which were linked with Najib and the previous Barisan Nasional government.
