PUTRAJAYA – The Immigration Department of Malaysia (IDM) has removed the names of the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) borrowers who were previously blacklisted in the Immigration control system in stages beginning 1 June.

Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said, according to the records, a total of 433,708 PTPTN defaulters have been blacklisted since 2000 to last 23 May.

From that amount, a total of 265,149 names have been removed from the system and the remaining 168,289 names would be removed from the department by this 15 June.

According to Muhyiddin, the process of removing the name list was made following the formal announcement by the Minister of Education, Dr Maszlee Malik on 24 May, to release the PTPTN defaulters from immigration blacklist.

“This was a part of the promises of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government which was in our manifesto if we win the election and rule the federal government,” he told the journalists after a work visit to the Immigration Department today.

Also present was the Secretary-General of Home, Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim and the Director-General of Immigration Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali.

“Individuals blacklisted by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) will be allowed to leave the country beginning 1 June, in line with the letter received by the Immigration on the similar date.

“I was informed that the Immigration has taken the necessary actions to update their list into their system to ensure the IRB blacklist are being released,” he said.

He also said that as of now, the Immigration record has a total of 636,202 individuals being blacklisted by other agencies.

Muhyiddin however did not name those agencies. – MalaysiaGazette
