US$1 bil donation from Sultan Brunei, Mukhriz apoligises for oversight

JERLUN: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir today apologised over a wrong posting by Mukhriz Mahathir FC (MMFC) Facebook page which claimed that the Sultan of Brunei donated US$1bil (RM3.95bil) to help boost the Malaysian economy.
Although MMFC is not his official page, Mukhriz, who is also Jerlun member of Parliament admitted that the oversight should have not happened as the page admin had not verified the information before uploading the posting.
"The news is false and I apologise for the posting and it should have not happened because the source of the information was not verified.
"InsyaAllah it will not happen again," he told reporters here today after attending a feast to celebrate Pakatan Harapan (PH) victory in the constituency at Sungai Korok here today.
The MMFC page had on Tuesday morning posted a picture of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah visiting Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Monday with a caption "The Brunei Sultan gave USD1bil to the Malaysian government to restore the economy, without having to pay it back".
The MMFC Facebook page admin has since deleted the post and apologised for the oversight. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
