"In the Cabinet, we will also use the majority rules principle because we don't always reach consensus, or else we will never reach a decision," said Dr Mahathir.

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan component party members that won more seats during the general election will receive more seats in Cabinet, says the Prime Minister.

In a special televised announcement, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic) said that the Cabinet will follow the percentage of seats won during the 14th general election.

"There are some parties that won more seats than others," said Dr Mahathir.

"But if the parties don't currently have the correct proportion, the party will get more positions in Cabinet when we set up the full 25-person Cabinet," he said, adding that the Cabinet will be no bigger than a 30-person Cabinet.

Dr Mahathir already announced three ministerial positions, that is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the Home Minister, while DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng will helm the Finance Ministry and Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu taking on the Defence Ministry.

PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has also been named as the Deputy Prime Minister.

He said that each component party will have their respective meetings to put forward their list of candidates for the ministerial position they want to hold.

Dr Mahathir said that he as Prime Minister will be the person that ultimately decides who will get which Cabinet position, and will consult the component party's president to make the final decision.

"I hope that that we will release the full list of ten Cabinet ministers by this week," said Dr Mahathir, adding that the full candidate list will be announced "as quickly as possible".

Dr Mahathir said that he would also open Cabinet positions to Pakatan Harapan component parties in Sabah and Sarawak.

"We will make Government decisions with the Prime Minister guiding the way in Cabinet," he said.

"In the Cabinet, we will also use the majority rules principle because we don't always reach consensus, or else we will never reach a decision," said Dr Mahathir.
