Our review of the top Ramadan 2018 Buka Puasa Spots in Kuala Lumpur brought us to one of the most popular hotels for Iftar in the city, Istana Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur and Royale Chulan Hotel Kuala Lumpur have a reputation of serving one of the best Malay cuisine during the holy month of Ramadhan.

The Hotel Istana “Selera Ramadhan” Buka Puasa Buffet at Taman Sari Brasserie  is mostly about live cooking stations.
They usually have more than 30 live action or cooking stations.

After breaking their fast with water and dates, the reviewers broke etiquette and tried the durian crepes first, since the stall was nearest to us. The crepes  were creamy and delicious. We were lucky we did that as throughout the night, there were long queue's for

the durian crepe's.

We then tried the Chicken and Beef Satay and it was one of tastiest in town as it was succulent and juicy.  The colour of the beef satay was dark and well grilled. The peanut sauce was really tasty too.

We then tasted the Whole Roasted Lamb, it  was really delicious. With the crispy skin outside and the succulent well marinated flavors inside.

We had to try the traditional bubur lambuk that Istana Hotel was famous for and they didn't disappoint, it was full of flavor and ingredients. It was certainly one of the best bubur lambuk in town.

The Char Kuey Teow and Carrot cake was a major hit with diners, so we tried that next and it was really fabulous, the chef manning the station was a delight to watch. You could tell she loved doing what she did.

The Live Lemang stall was easily one of the most popular stalls, with one of the best tasting beef rendang, lemang and serunding in town.

The Salmon Fish Head Curry was even better than last year, it is easily one of the best in town and an absolute must try.

The Malay curry's corner had Prawns, Lamb, FIsh  and Chicken curry's and they were all awesome

The Murtabak Singapore was very authentic and tasty

The Chinese Wok Fried Stall had Lala, Bamboo clam, Prawn, Mussels, Crabs that can be cooked in sauce of your choice. They had three sauces for you to choose from - Black Pepper, Buttermilk and Kam Heong Sauce.

The Gulai Tulang Rusuk Kambing or Braised Lamb Ribs was really full of flavor and tasty.

The Claypot Chicken rice received a big thumbs up too, plain as it looked it was really tasty.

The Hyderabad Lamb Curry was another favourite of the reviewers.

The Arabian Section was another crowd favourite  with lamb kebab's, beef mushakal vegetable and chicken kebabs.

For who love their pasta, they had a pasta stall with a choice of different pasta's and sauces .

The teppanyaki stall was a crowd favourite.

Seeing how Malaysians love Japanese cuisine it was no surprise to see that the Sushi stall was another crowd favourite.

At the seafood section they had some fresh and tasty mussels, prawns and scallops and crabs.

For those who love to start with salads they had a salad counter with all the usual condiments and dressings. They even had a wide variety of traditional malay salads and ulam-ulaman.

Other stalls included the Cheese Banana Fritter Stall, Kacang Pool and Arabian Dish Stall,  Ulam Ulaman stall, Kuih Keria. Nasi Kerabu dan Ikan Goreng Stall, Nasi Dalcha Stall, Indian Specialties stall and Pakistan Briyani stall.

DESSERTS

The Desserts section was made up of a variety of cakes, jelly's , malay kuih,  cupcakes ice cream and biscuits. They even had marsh mellows. The ABC and Ice Cream stall as you can expect was another crowd favourite.

The biscuit in tins surely reminded diners of their childhood when they used to buy biscuits like that from the shops.

The Malay Kuih section had some of the usual nyonya kuih favourites . They were very tasty too. The dodol on a spoon was quite a unique sight.

The Bread and Butter Pudding and Blueberry Crumble was again a crowd favourite.

I loved the strawberry cupcakes, they had chocolate and pandan cupcakes too. The pecan pie was my favourite too.

The Cakes were really tasty, fresh and moist. Our favourites were the Green Tea and Red Velvet Cakes. The chocolate euclair was so creamy and delicious.

The mousse and jelly' were very tasty and beautifully presented.

The bubur section had some very tasty Bubur Pengat Pisang, Bubur Jagung and Bubur Pulut Hitam.

The had a wide variety of keropok's too.

We had two plates of some of the tastiest Mango's . In fact in a special deal with a FAMA related agency, guest can buy a box of 3kg of mango's at RM65.00 at the foyer of the Istana Hotel.

The Fruits Section had one of the widest variety of Malaysian seasonal fruits. They had a wide variety of "jeruk" or picled fruits too.

At the drinks section the had Air Cincau, Air Mata Kucing, Soya bean and my favourite Air Bandung. The Nescafe Tarik and Teh Tarik were really well prepared, it was not too sweet.
