Give Malaysia, also known as Pertubuhan Amal Nasional 1Malaysia, is a non-profit organisation founded by former beauty queen Betty Anne Brohier. It plans to raise RM50,000 at its charity bazaar Shop With A Passion Fair at Bangsar Village 1 in Kuala Lumpur this weekend (May 19 and 20).

“Initially we wanted to hold a huge fair, but decided to hold a smaller one instead. Some 22 vendors will participate in the fair and 30% of the proceeds will go to Give Malaysia,” said Brohier, adding that BV1 was also the event partner.

She said the bazaar will offer a variety of items including fashion and home products, arts and crafts, and artisanal food. It’s also a chance for folks to shop for Hari Raya while raising funds.

The proceeds will benefit marginalised communities in urban neighbourhoods, children who need medication, and animals that need neutering or spaying as well as resettling,

Brohier, winner of the Miss Malaysia Asia Pacific 1984 pageant, said the bazaar will be Give Malaysia’s second event in 2018 following a fundraising Easter fair in April.

Celebrity brand ambassador Peter Davis – model, actor and mixed martial arts fighter – will be inviting the public for a self-defence demonstration at the bazaar. He is sponsoring two personal training sessions as prizes.

Other sponsored prizes included tickets to a show by The Definitive Rat Pack and haircuts by Albert Nico.

There will also be magic shows, face- and henna-painting, feng shui reading, a superhero meet-and-greet, a dance by the Irish Club of the Alice Smith International School, an Indian classical dance by children, and a “wheel of fortune” lucky draw.

Give Malaysia was set up in 2016 by a group of seven friends from the fashion and creative industries. The organisation had already helped to raise funds for a friend in Kuala Kubu Barum Hulu Selangor, in their bid to build a shelter for 50 rescued stray dogs.

Brohier said Give Malaysia aims to provide assistance and improve the lives of disadvantaged Malaysians by alleviating human suffering, the distressed and the destitute with programmes and charity campaigns.

Give Malaysia patron Puan Sri Shariffa Sabrina Syed Akil is the president of Pertubuhan Pelindung Khazanah Alam Malaysia (Peka Malaysia), an NGO that aims to create awareness about nature, preservation and sustenance of the environment.

She announced plans for a Fashion Walk In The Forest at her eco-tourism resort, Tanah Aina Fahad resort, in Ulu Dong, Pahang, by November. “Give Malaysia will help her with this event to raise funds for the environment and the Orang Asli of Gua Musang, Kelantan,” said Brohier.
