The comment by The SPR Chairman this afternoon shows that the body needs a total revamp.
Other than giving the facts and figures of the Parties Participating he simply said any objection by any candidate can be referred to the courts.
PKR vice-president Tian Chua was disqualified from contesting in the parliamentary seat of Batu. Returning officer Anwar Mohd Zain made the decision based on a March 2 Shah Alam High Court ruling which fined Tian Chua RM2,000.
The decision was at odds with the 13th general election when the returning officer then allowed Tian Chua to contest in Batu despite a separate conviction where Tian Chua was also fined RM2,000.
Why is the returning officer given so much power that he can reject Tian Chua's nomination based on a interpretation of a court's decision, is he trained and learned enough to interpret the judges statement.
There should be a committee he can refer to in a situation like this. No one man should be given so much power like this.
