12 Parliamentary seats come under the purview of city police, 2,693 policemen will be deployed for GE14


2,600 KL cops tasked with ensuring public order on nomination day

KUALA LUMPUR: Up to 2,693 policemen will be deployed during the 14th general election’s (GE14) nomination day on Saturday. Of the total, 361 are police officers; 2,303 are rank and file policemen; and 29 are police civilian staff. 

City police chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said police from all six districts in the city – Sentul, Wangsa Maju, Brickfields, Dang Wangi, Cheras and Putrajaya will be involved on Apr 28 to ensure that the nomination process goes off without a hitch.

 He said 12 Parliamentary seats, namely - Kepong, Batu, Wangsa Maju, Segambut, Setiawangsa, Titiwangsa, Bukit Bintang, Lembah Pantai, Seputeh, Cheras, Bandar Tun Razak and Putrajaya – come under the purview of city police. 

Mazlan said Kepong and Batu are under the Sentul district police headquarters; Wangsa Maju, Setiawangsa and Titiwangsa (Wangsa Maju district police headquarters); Segambut, Lembah Pantai and Seputeh (Brickfields district police headquarters); Bukit Bintang (Dang Wangi district police headquarters); Cheras and Bandar Tun Razak (Cheras district police headquarters) and Putrajaya (Putrajaya district police headquarters).

 The nomination centre in Kepong is the Jinjang Utara multipurpose hall; Batu (SMK Sentul Utama hall); Wangsa Maju (SMK Wangsa Melawati hall); Segambut (SRK Bukit Damansara); Setiawangsa (Stadium Titiwangsa); Titiwangsa (SMK Aminuddin Baki hall); Bukit Bintang (SMK Victoria hall); Lembah Pantai (Bukit Bandaraya community centre); Seputeh (SMK Bandar Baru Sri Petaling hall); Cheras (SK Seri Bintang Selatan hall); Bandar Tun Razak (DBKL Training Institute hall) and Putrajaya (Kompleks Kejiranan Presint 9).

 Mazlan was speaking during a press conference following the state-level 48th Cadet Police Corps anniversary celebration at the state police headquarters today. 

He stressed that police will take action against any party that attempts to disturb public order; and reminded all election candidates to arrive early at their respective nomination centres as they only have one hour to register. 

“Supporters are allowed to gather and show support for the candidate, but they must not obstruct traffic. “They are advised to leave the nomination centre right after the process to avoid causing congestion in the respective areas.

 “They must also adhere to laws and follow police instructions to ensure a peaceful and smooth nomination day,” he added. 

Mazlan also urged Malaysians not to fall for unverified news, and to always confirm the authenticity of information with the authorities, including the police.
