Comatose marathon runner's family and friends say their final goodbyes

PETALING JAYA: The family of comatose marathon runner Evelyn Ang has decided to take her off life support.
Evelyn's sister Caroline Ang posted on Facebook Friday, calling on family and friends to say their final farewell.
"Please say your last goodbyes to her by today. PM (private message) me for ward info," she said.
A family member who declined to be named said doctors had told the family that Evelyn's bodily systems had stopped functioning and placing her on life support was no longer necessary.

The family member added that doctors had told them that Evelyn would only survive a few hours without life support.
"She has gone through 11 surgeries and suffered two heart attacks in the last two days," she added.
Evelyn was involved in a hit-and-run accident with two other runners during the Klang City International Marathon in December last year.
She suffered a cranial fracture and bleeding in the brain.
"All of us are trying to cope. We are all here. It is going to be a big loss, especially for her parents," the family member said.
She also said Evelyn's sister, Angel, who suffers from Down Syndrome and epilepsy, would miss her greatly as she was her main caregiver.
"Since Evelyn's accident, Angel has been having more frequent epileptic attacks. It is tough.
"I think Angel will not be able to deal with it (her death)," she said.
The family member also urged the Government to toughen laws dealing with reckless driving.
