NAJIB Razak has called on Barisan Nasional to adopt the Liverpool football club's anthem, You'll Never Walk Alone, saying it would foster unity and camaraderie prior to the 14th general election.

The prime minister said BN component parties and "friends of BN" or BN-friendly civil society organisations should be "selfless and work together" to ensure they are accepted by the people.

"I am drawn to the word sahabat (friendship). We should not only think of position and rank. Don't think of material needs and status. Don't only think of what you will get. We must foster this brotherhood.

"You'll never walk alone. Although that is the theme of Liverpool (football club), it's fine. We will use it when we carry out our work in Barisan Nasional. We should never feel alone because we have many friends," he said during the launch of Azalea, BN's women youth wing, in Kuala Lumpur today.

Najib, however, admitted he was more of a Manchester United fan, Liverpool's archrival over the past 30 years in the English Premier League.

Najib said as BN chairman, as long as brotherhood and unity was fostered, work that needed to get done would be more "fun" than stressful.

"BN's work is not something stressful. If we have many friends and help one another, work will seem like fun. It's a joy to work," he told some 3,000 women youth wing members at Lake Gardens.

Meanwhile, Umno Puteri chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said although the new wing had yet to be listed in the party's constitution, it had started going to the ground to drum up support for BN.

"Since becoming Puteri chief, we have strengthened our resolve as a team by assisting in the by-elections. We have carried out engagements and I'm happy, confident and grateful for the trust given to us."

Mas Ermieyati, who is also tourism and culture deputy minister, expressed confidence in fending off attacks from the opposition in the next election.

"I am confident with our team and the support we have. We have told our members to educate the public and not only listen, but also read and watch (what the opposition says)," she said. – January 20, 2018.
