Selangor State Government in collaboration with Waze to ensure potholes patched based on report made on the Waze app

Next Time When You Hit A Pothole While Driving In Selangor, Here's What You Can Do

s
Are you a road user in Selangor and at times get frustrated with potholes that make your journey more bumpy that you would prefer?
Fret no more as the Selangor State Government has initiated a collaboration with Waze to ensure that potholes will be patched more efficiently based on the report that you made on the Waze app.
“With this initiative, drivers in Selangor have a simple and effective way to report potholes directly to the authorities, so they can get patched quickly,” said Edward Ling, Country Manager for Waze Malaysia, in a statement.
This initiative is made possible by the Waze community, who constantly share real-time traffic data and other relevant information in order to help ensure smoother journeys.
And it has shown tangible impacts as the Selangor State Government has received more than 19,000 reports via Waze users from January to November this year and they have patched almost all of those that are on local authority roads.
“This citizen collaboration has shown tangible impacts and we hope that Selangor citizens continue to assist the state in pothole detection via the Waze app,” said Smart Selangor Delivery Unit (SSDU) Deputy Program Director Dr Fahmi Ngah.
According to SSDU, this initiative covers all twelve Selangor State Local Authorities, namely:
- Petaling Jaya (MBPJ)
- Shah Alam (MBSA)
- Hulu Selangor (MDHS)
- Kuala Langat (MDKL)
- Kuala Selangor (MDKS)
- Sabak Bernam (MDSB)
- Ampang Jaya (MPAJ)
- Kajang (MPKJ)
- Klang (MPK)
- Selayang (MPS)
- Sepang (MPSepang)
- Subang Jaya (MPSJ)
However, they are not able to tend to all reports as some roads in Selangor are privately owned or separately managed by the Public Works Department (Jabatan Kerja Raya), the State District Office (Pejabat Daerah / Tanah), or the Malaysia Highway Authority and Concessionaires.
Despite that, it does no one harm if you report any potholes that you see while driving around in Selangor and your report can be made by following these simple steps via Waze:
1. When you see a pothole, have your passenger tap and hold down on the Reports icon.
2. Holding down the Reports icon will offer three report types.
3. While still holding down on the Reports icon, move your thumb to select Hazard.
4. On the Hazard Menu, select hazard On road.
5. Then select Pothole.
6. Tap Send to share the report.
7. Wait for the Selangor State Local Authority to patch the pothole within 5 days.
8. Enjoy a smoother drive once the pothole is patched.
