KUALA LUMPUR: A cosmetics entrepreneur was fined RM5,000 in default of six months’ jail for blackmailing his ex-girlfriend by threatening to distribute her nude pictures.

Wan Hairuzrizal Wan Habib, 38, pleaded guilty to the offence in front of Magistrate Firdaus Sadina Ali at the Ampang magistrate’s court today.

Hairuzrizal, a father of two, was charged with extorting a 36-year-old event organiser by threatening to distribute her lewd pictures via WhatsApp at the Impian Selatan Condominium, Taman Bukit Mewah, Bukit Antarabangsa, about 6.30am on Nov 5.

The offence falls under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Clad in a black suit and tie, Hairuzrizal did not appear to be camera shy as press photographers and video crew snapped away outside the courtroom when the proceedings ended.

“Please stop taking pictures of my handsome face,” he was heard saying while leaving the court, escorted by policemen.

According to the facts of the case, Hairuzrizal, who is a divorcee, had contacted his ex-girlfriend, who is a mother of four, via WhatsApp by sending several nude pictures of her.

He demanded that the woman reply his messages and threatened to distribute the pictures if she refused. The woman lodged a police report shortly after.

Deputy public prosecutor Hashimah Hashim pressed for deterrent sentence against the accused. However, Hairuzrizal, when pleading for a lenient sentence, stated that he was remorseful of his crime and was the sole breadwinner for his family. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
